How to free up storage space on Windows 10 PC

Windows PC users too are not immune to the problem. If you fall in that very umbrella of Windows users, here are some options you can try to free up some space on your Windows 10-powered desktop and laptops.

Disk Cleanup
Disk Cleanup is one of the niftiest tools available in Windows PCs. You can find the option by simply searching for it inside the search bar in the Start Menu. The feature will automatically scan the complete PC and will show you the space used by temporary files, cached files, updates and files that are inside the recycle bin. It is up to you to choose the destinations from where the tool will clean up the files. You can also click the 'Clean up system files' option to remove the older version of Windows. This is likely to get you Gigabytes of space.

Uninstall heavy apps

Apps take most of the space in any device, let it be a smartphone or a PC. In Windows 10 you can uninstall the apps that are being used rarely or not at all. You can check out which apps are taking most of the space by navigating through Settings > System > Apps & feature. Simply click on the desired app and tap on 'Uninstall'.

Remove duplicate files

Only cleaning up disks and uninstalling heavy applications are not enough to solve the issue. You can further free up space by removing duplicate files. For this, you also may require third-party application/applications. One of the popular apps to recognise duplicate files is C cleaner. After removing duplicate files, images and other content you can further create a backup on one of the cloud storage platforms or multiple cloud storage website and remove the data from the PC, sweeping it clean.

How to run full version of Android Marshmallow on your PC without emulators

With Android running on almost 2 million devices, there are many users who want to extend the capability of having a similar experience of Android on their PC or laptop. Emulators like BlueStacks have helped PC users to download and install Android apps directly to their systems.

But, what if you could use Android like an everyday operating system on your PC or laptop without an emulator? What if you could breathe new life into your old computer with the Android Marshmallow? You can do that with Remix OS.

Remix OS is based on the native Android Marshmallow coding, but with a surprising twist. The OS allows you to run Android and its apps like a desktop OS. Meaning you can run multiple apps in the form of windows. You can continue using the mouse and keyboard for navigation across the OS, too.

Important note:
It is recommended that you install Remix OS on an older machine. The OS is updated regularly for bug fixes and is not devoid of issues. The community developers work to bring more stability with every update.

Step 1:
Heading over to Remix OS homepage , you will be greeted by an option to download the installation package.

Step 2:
Once you decide to download, you will need to ensure you download either the 32-bit or 64-bit version depending on your system configuration. The installer is available in standard download mode or using torrents (perfectly legal as the software is a free to use).

Step 3:
The package installer includes an image and an executable file. After opening the executable Remix OS installer, you need to mount the image file.

Step 4:
Next, you can make a choice of installing the OS directly on your hard disk or on a flash drive. On choosing the former, you can run both Windows and Remix OS on the same system.

Step 5:
Once the installation is over (if you've installed it on the hard disk), a reboot prompt will be displayed. Proceed to restart your system to enable the changes to take effect.

Step6:
Once your system reboots, you can choose to start Windows or Remix OS.

Step 7:

Once the Remix OS system loads, your final setup of the operating system welcomes you. Standard terms and conditions, language settings, Wi-Fi settings etc. As soon as the setup is complete, you're free to use the OS just like you would use a traditional Windows PC.

Benefits of Firewall Security

Benefits of Firewall Security

Having a personal firewall can quell the jitters you might have about your computer getting attacked. An Internet connection, especially an always-on type like broadband, is the entry point for hackers who want to get to your computer. A firewall polices your connection and is an essential tool in a basic computer security arsenal, along with an anti-virus tool. The book “Network Security First-Step” likens a firewall to an Internet border security officer because of its role in disallowing the wrong things from entering your computer from a network or the Internet.

Monitors Traffic

A firewall monitors all of the traffic entering your computer network. A two-way firewall does double duty and monitors the traffic exiting your network as well. Information is sent over networks in packets. Those packets are what the firewall investigates to determine if there’s something they contain that's potentially hazardous to your network’s security. Even you as the sender could transmit something bad, without knowing it, which is why it’s important to have a firewall police the contents.

Blocks Trojans

A firewall helps block Trojan horses. These types of intruders latch onto your computer files, and then when you send out a file, they go along for the ride to do more damage at the destination. Trojans are especially dangerous because they silently transmit what they uncover about you to a Web server. You’re oblivious to their presence until strange things start happening to your computer. A firewall blocks them from the outset, before they have a chance to infect your computer.

Stops Hackers

Having a firewall keeps hackers out of your network. Without firewall security, a hacker could get a hold of your computer and make it a part of what’s called a botnet, which is a large group of computers used to conduct illicit activity, such as spreading viruses. While hackers represent an extreme group, individuals who you may not suspect, such as neighbors, can also take advantage of an open Internet connection you may have. A firewall prevents such peeping-tom intrusions.

Stops Keyloggers

Having firewall security will reduce the risk of keyloggers monitoring you. A keylogger is spyware software that cybercriminals try to put on your computer so they can target your keystrokes. After they can identify what you're typing in and where, they can use that information to do the same thing. This knowledge can help them log in to your private online account.
